Challenge? Did you say challenge? Wait … what? I have to count how many times I use ‘look’?

On October 5, 2012 by Aimee

A week and a half ago, Jocelyn Adams, fellow writer and crazy woman, challenged me. Moi. Little ole me to count the number of times I used ‘look’ in Surrender and to follow that with paragraphs of my favorite three ‘look’ spots.

If you’d like to see this challenge, check it out on Jocelyn’s blog.

And if you’d like to find out if I took said challenge, see below!

The count!

Through 96,000 words, a version of ‘look’ (looking, looked, looks like, etc.) came out to 111!

Mostly, those words came in dialog 🙂

And now for some paragraph fun!

1)
“You’re looking up the number, aren’t you?”
Another few taps and he’d find the cell’s location. Unless Tony moved, Cael would have an address or GPS coordinates, and a few more clicks would give him turn by turn directions.
He stopped and stared at Wyatt. “Wouldn’t you do the same thing?”

2)
A press of the release catch and the machine came to life—sticky note stuck inside.
“Anj—I held it waiting for your return from Romania. Didn’t look inside.—T.” A heart accompanied the signed ‘T’.
“What were you hiding that even your own husband would say he didn’t look?”

3)
Charley patted the knee resting against her armrest.
“And yet you look like you could be—”
“Don’t say it. It’s really gotten old, and I am so over it.” James’s boom of laughter shook the trees. “Fine, fine. You don’t
want me to tell you that you’re the most beautiful two-hundred- something eighteen year old around? No problem.”

Tada! There you have it.

The Challenge!

Now, of course, I have to share this challenge and who do I pick? Here we go:

So, let’s see it! How many times did YOU use ‘look’?
Have fun!
