Read? Or not?

Stone Chameleon by Jocelyn Adams

About the front:
It’s always fun to see a cover that is created from a book I’ve read a while ago and Stone Chameleon is just like that. I beta read this story for Ms. Adams quite a while ago and truly loved it. The cover is a deep reflection of the story with the sword. It had almost an oriental feel to it though that doesn’t particularly meet with what was in my mind’s eye, but that’s okay because not everyone will see what I see. Not sure what’s in the ‘o’ of Jocelyn’s name but I do really like the striking red dragon design that connects the Stone and Chameleon words. The picture is a little flat, too in that it doesn’t have enough contrast but that makes me wonder if it was deliberate. Like is there something about ‘sameness’ in the book? Well … for answers like that you’ll have to read the story!

Now let’s look at what the back says:

When a series of unusual murders point to Lou Hudson, Ironhill’s equal rights advocate, as the primary suspect, she has but one choice: find the real perpetrator before her trial begins or face execution.

Lou, the last of the jinn, survives by hiding her abilities after the rest of the elementals fell victim to genocide. As a preternatural pest exterminator and self-proclaimed guardian of the innocent, she’s accustomed to trudging through the dregs of society. Hunting down a pesky murderer should be easy, especially with help from the dashing and mischievous local media darling.

For Lou, though, nothing is ever simple. When she discovers the killer’s identity, to reveal it would unearth her secret and go against her strict moral code, resulting in a deadly catch twenty-two.

Does it match? Front to Back without the in between?

Well, here I have to say I have no idea what the cover is leading to, but the premise is cool.

Funny thing about blurbs … this actually sounds more contemporary than urban fantasy, then again, UF is kinda like contemporary paranormal (if that’s an apt description). Now finding that our MC is a pest exterminator says a lot (though, would she use the sword to exterminate them?

For Lou, though, nothing is ever simple. When she discovers the killer’s identity, to reveal it would unearth her secret and go against her strict moral code, resulting in a deadly catch twenty-two.

Life and death seems to be a theme for Jocelyn’s work. Wouldn’t you say? 😉 I’m not getting a feel of this story from this blurb and don’t see a match per se with the cover. So I can’t say that ‘it matches’. But I know I liked the story, so hopefully you will too!
