Kids Holiday Photo Contest begins November 26th

Apex, NC – November 2, 2009 – Local photography studio, Pure Expressions Photography, will host a kids photography contest that includes prizes and display at the Halle Cultural Arts Center in Apex, North Carolina.

The photography contest is designed to encourage children to use technology to enhance their family experience. The Thanksgiving to Christmas timeline was selected to have children create their images while visiting, interacting with and enjoying time with family throughout the holiday season.

“Kids today understand digital cameras by the time they are two — they know where to look to see what was taken at the very least. By the time they are ten, they have a phone with two or three mega-pixel cameras all their own. Often the images created are just for fun, but for some kids, photography is a true method of expression,” suggests Aimee Bickers, creator of the kids photography contest and owner of Pure Expressions Photography. “We want to encourage the blending of their technical and artistic abilities with time spent with family,” adds Aimee.

The contest is open to all children twelve years old and younger and there is absolutely no cost to participate. The contest runs from November 26 – December 26 with online participatory voting via the online resource Facebook in January 2010.

“Kids can take any photo they’d like. There are no subject requirements,” notes Aimee. Parents are encouraged to assist their budding photographer by offering suggestions, ideas or opinions and to complete the submission of the photograph for judging. However, the composition, final image selection and actual photography must be completed by the participating child.

Prior registration is not necessary. Parents may submit their child’s image by following the rules posted at https://www.aimeelaine.com/blog/?page_id=5312 . Submissions will only be accepted November 26 – December 26 and any image submitted prior to or after those dates will not be considered in the contest.

Sponsor organizations who have donated prizes include Pure Expressions Photography, Artful Color, Learning Express, Kelly’s Kids and Triangle T.R.A.C.K.S. The final treat will be a display of the top ten vote-getters at the Halle Cultural Arts Center in early 2010.
