Wyatt’s blood pressure rose as his heart rate soard. He stuffed the key in the ignition, started and raced the engine.
“It’s only half a mile away,” Stuart said.
“Go!” Cael waved him forward.
I hope he reaches her in time!

Dun-dun-dun!! I like scenes where the hero or heroine is hiding and she’s so close to being discovered that you hold your breath with her and pray.

scenes where I have no idea what’s going to happen next
You know me, I love any tension filled scene, whether it be a race to get away from something or two people facing off over just about anything. If the character is squirming, I’m squirming. 🙂
I loved this! And I have to say that the opening sequence of Little White Lies really got my heart racing, I was anxious to find out “is she gonna make it?” 😀

Love the tension in these six
The scenes that typically get my heart pumping are just like this: they start with a realization that makes the character’s heart stop before it starts again, racing to the point of pain. Basically, what gets the character’s heart racing is what makes mine do the same. So, great six–you definitely did that here!
Eek! Will they get there in time? It’s definitely a suspenseful situation. Great six!

I like all sorts of tense scenes, though I think I really like things that are a quiet sort of tension (say, two people having a conversation where they are trying to find out if someone knows something, et cetera).

I had a bit of difficulty with your second paragraph… the typo is an easy fix, but I specifically had trouble with the second line. When I see the word ‘stuffed’, I think of bulging, expanding, etc. which doesn’t really fit with the idea of putting a key in the ignition. Also, perhaps it’s slang, but I wasn’t sure what you meant by ‘raced the engine’. Since he just started the car, do you mean he revved the engine? ‘Raced’ makes it sound like the car is already in motion, but the final line makes it seem like at that point they are still stopped.
