Blog Chain : What color is my writing (AW)
Welcome once again to the monthly Absolute Write Blog Chain! This month it’s all about color. Specifically, If you had to pick one color, and one color only, for an aspect of your writing, which one would it be and why?
The chain is at the bottom of the post including those before and after me.
Let me start by saying David Zahir (immediately before me in the chain) took my other favorite color, the other one I’d consider as one of my writing. But for this chain, I’d already decided on the appropriate one.
Now, I’m all about color. One of my writer-buddies noted in one of my latest manuscripts that I always describe the scene, right down to the colors on the walls.
Lexi leaned on the door frame between her bedroom and the adjoining room. Hers, a subtle lavender, and Emma’s, a bold raspberry, fed into a French-country yellow bath with dual sinks. Their beach house, one they’d lived in since childhood and bought when their parents chose to sell it, reflected each of their tastes.
That’s just part of my nature … to describe and look what colors I used!
Here is how I came up with my color…
Characters in my stories are both sweet and tart, sometimes at separate times and in others, at the same time. As I write and create them, their lives evolve, but sometimes, it goes overboard, they ripen too fast and instead of holding their form, they slither to a lump of wet goo and I’m stuck rewriting them into something tight.
When the writing works right though, they are perfectly shaped, well rounded with a few bumps and bruises, taste sweet, smell fresh and are not only able to be read as an individual, but in groups or in community with my other characters.
Raspberries are exactly like this. Not only are they my favorite fruit/berry, they are my favorite color and fit or suit the overall appeal of my writing. And I love that it’s also a color.
Once I figured out my color, this little chain was easy because every story I’ve finished followed this patter and in the end, I walked away happy … especially when my color became a topping on ice cream.
Now, read on to others and see what color means to them…
