::blog chain:: Hint Fiction
What exactly IS ‘hint fiction’? Well … it was coined by Robert Swartwood.
It’s a story of 25 words or less that suggests a larger, more complex story.
This month, for the December Absolute Write Blog Chain, the idea was to write a piece of hint fiction … yes … 25 words or less that tells an entire story AND hints at a bigger one.
Easy?
Not on your life.
Though the person before me … Aheila was great as will be the one after me Regan Leigh. I encourage you to visit them as well as others in the chain.
Now for my piece de resistance (ha!)
An entire story in 25 words or less.
Title: The warning
Dawn conceals what the darkness of night reveals.
He smirked, ambled through morning’s light. “Whatever.”
Blind corners do, too. I didn’t tell him that.
And there you go. 24 words (the title doesn’t count, but it is a key aspect of the story).
So what did ya think?? Did I manage? 🙂
Now, go check out what others have written!

There’s definitely a hint of story in there. Loved it!
Thanks! 🙂 Hehehehe. And now you and Julie can slap my hands, because this CAME from After Dark (which I vowed not to write any of until 2011). Ha!!

Cheater! (But I won’t tell Julie)
Tricky, Aimee, very tricky. Nice.
Thanks, Hillary!
I’m loving these 25-word fiction writings! Already I’ve seen some that could act as great springboards for longer pieces.
Thanks for your contribution!
Thanks, Jane! Mine IS (hahaha) the springboard for a longer piece. 🙂 (https://www.emigayle.com/blog/?p=92) hehe. 🙂 Glad you liked it!
wow..I think I need to re-work mine
Thanks, Eliza! And no need to rework! We’re all different! I’m sure yours is great! 🙂
I loved the story. Very suspenseful.
Thanks, Deanna!! 🙂
I like it! Now why didn’t you tell him about the blind corner?
Thanks Jenny! Guess you’ll have to read the story it’s a part of. 😉

Yes, a nice hint. I’m wondering what’s around that corner!
Thanks, Diane! The answer comes soon! 😉
Wow! You were able to pack a lot more into your 25 words that I was into mine!
Thanks! 🙂
