Clear my Shelf! Someday, my “book room” will actually be one … someday. Someday.
Thank you, up front, to “I Am A Reader, Not A Writer” for hosting this awesome hop!
Ever since having kids, I’ve been acquiring stuff. Not just stuff … but LOADS of stuff … GOBS of … STUFF. That includes my massive, growing library of boooooks. Now, when I say library, it’s not one of those awesome places like this:
or like this
Oh no. I don’t have that … yet. Why not? For one, my books are stacked on the floor, 10-20 piles of them, halfway up the wall and in front of them? Everything else in my house that needs to be sold at a yard sale or on Craigslist or eBay.
Yep, my books are hidden in the confines of a room that is slam packed with JUNK.
And it all needs to go.
But rather than tell you I have a double, Dora the Explorer outdoor seat that no longer folds to give away, or a white rocking horse I haven’t been able to sell, or a desk that is in much need of clearing so it can be used … I’m going to focus on the books that are hidden beneath this Mount Everest of junk.
What’s in there?
Honestly? I haven’t the faintest idea. I know I’ve read 90% of them (some of the old ones were gifts and so I’m not sure I read them). I have thrillers, Nora Roberts and JD Robb, romances, literary fiction, historicals, young adult, middle grades. Deep in the pocket of my house that was once the sitting room … lies a pile of books.
Were they not inanimate objects, they’d all probably be cowering together wondering just what I planned to do with them.
And here’s what I’ll tell you.
I have no idea.
I WANT a bookshelf like this:
It’s my dream to clear out that room, build this into one full wall, keep my sofa (that is covered in stuff) and the desk (that is covered in stuff) and the rug (that is covered in stuff) and have my own little library.
For now … I must pay off debt, medical bills and save up, but some day … SOME day, I’ll have my space. All to myself. Cleaned up. Organized. Without a single book I’d want to give away. (Ha, yeah, right). 🙂
For now, I’m going to offer to share my mess with you. I mean … share my books with you. How? The question is in the Rafflecopter!
Don’t forget to comment!
And go visit others!
I would line every wall floor to ceiling with books and have a cute little seating area place in the middle. 🙂
I would have a library/study. I’ll (hopefully) having my teaching license in a year from now, so I’ll need a big desk with a comfy chair where I can read student work, along with my bookshelves (currently have two full shelves, but I’d LOVE built-in bookshelves), one of those oversized lounge chairs, and a dog bed for the dog I’ll have when I have my dream room/house. 😉
I would put all my books there and make it a nice reading room. Thanks for the chance to win!
I would have a lot of windows with window seats that are extra comfy. I would also have an oversized chair with an ottoman to snuggle up in. I would have bookcases on all the walls that don’t have windows and fill them with all different types of books.
Oh I’d definitely go with a library. Some of the ones you see online like these just make me want to swoon.
Thanks!
Rubbing my hands together preparing for the ultimate fantasy room; there would be a desk with awesome computer equipment, plenty of book shelves (really liked your diagonal shelving idea looks really pretty), shelving for my odd bits with perhaps glass doors so the items can be seen and enjoyed without getting so full of dust, a comfy recliner and light for reading, an awesome air conditioner, and the the icing on the cake a small wet bar area with an espresso maker coffee pot, nibbles, and ice 🙂 I could really keep going, but I just started to drool and it is unseemly LOL Thank you for the fun and the lovely giveaway opportunity.
A day lounge with lots of window seats surrounded by pretty curtains. Fluffy carpet that feels good going barefoot. A big leather recliner that could fit two comfortably for cuddling. All of this by a big stone fireplace. Of course all the walls will have the books shelfs built into the wall. Oh, and maybe a coffee machine. Preferably a Keurig machine. Mmm Coffee!
Definitely a cute little study with giant windows and shelves lined with books! Makes me excited just thinking about it!
I someday want a library/beauty room everything I love in one place my clothes books and makeup I don’t think I would ever leave!
I would also have a library with floor to ceiling books, it would have a day bed and lots of compfy chairs!
I love books so I would like to have lots of cool bookshelves, a comfy place to read and lots of windows to let in the sunshine!
I’ve had an extra room before, and I had turned it into a sort of living room for myself.
Oh goodness…idk maybe an underwater type room thing with fish and stuff and then blue shelves or something for books 😀
Library, DEFINITELY. With a nice comfy couch or chair to nap in, and good lighting and pretty stuff and knicknacks. 🙂
I’ve always dreamed that if I had a room all to myself I would turn it into a library. 🙂 With super snazzy bookshelves just like your pictures!
If I had a room all to myself, I’d make one or two of the walls a giant bookshelf, with a ton of comfy chairs in it, and a nice flat screen TV on another wall. I’m not sure what you’d call that, maybe a decked out library? Whichever, it’s definitely a plan of mine haha. Thanks for the great giveaway.
If I had a room to myself, like you said, I would over 1 or 2 entire walls with books and the other wall with a huge screen TV where I can play with X box…Wow, heaven!
I have a gazillion books too, hubby keeps “meaning” to get me shelves built. Mine are stored in boxes…
Love those rooms! I’m sure I’ll get one someday *Dreams*
I would make the room into my office/library. I would get all of my writing and reading done there.
I would be thrilled, first of all!… I would have floor to ceiling bookshelves, in need of a library ladder because my dream would be TALL ceilings… and I would have a cozy chaise lounge and a big fluffy chair with an ottoman… and an end table with warm lamp glow… and a blogging nook! (can ya tell I’ve been thinking about this room?!)
Giant library/study!
Thanks for the great giveaway. I actually have a room in my house all to myself. I can it the scrapbooking room. It is also where I read, crochet, and sew. I guess it is the only good thing about kids growing up and moving out.
Thank you so much for the fun giveaway! I do have a room all to myself, but since I don’t own the house I can’t really do much with it. But right now I have it lined with bookcases! I’m hoping to squeeze a recliner in there too 🙂
I would line the walls with bookshelves, except for enough room to have a window with a view and a desk that looks out it. I would want my computer, probably a stereo. Then I would want a nice sofa to read on. That’s it.
I have always dreamed of an office/library.
That’s the easiest answer I’ve ever had to give…I’d turn that place into a reading room/library. But if it was big enough, I’d turn it into a nursery/library. A baby room, with one wall dedicated ENTIRELY to books – I want my baby to grow up being around books ALL THE TIME, plus, they’d be there for me to read and peruse through even when I’m spending time with my child! 😀
I would make it a creativity room- it would have to include an outdoor segment so I could have trees to climb, a library, my sewing machine and fabrics, music, and let me have complete privacy from contact with the outside world. 🙂
I’d like an indoor pool for exercise.
I’d make it into the ultimate reading room! Complete with one of those amazing floor to ceiling bookshelves, stocked full of books.
One wall ceiling to floor built in bookcase with glass doors. Not sure how else.
I’d decorate a room like the white one at the top of your post – walls lined from top to bottom with books. I’d also include a desk in the corner with a big comfy chair where I could write my own books. I’d also like a comfy chair where I could curl up and read.
And now I’m looking forward to moving out so I can have a reading/writing room. 😀
It would be a library for sure!
This actually happened for me! My husband and I moved into our new home and I got a whole room for my library!! It doesn’t look like the pretty pictures you have above, but it’s all mine and stuffed full of books & shelves. Love it!!
I would definitely have a library with giant bookshelves and a super comfy couch.
I would make it into a book room with tons of cool bookshelves..
My room would be full of books, comfy chairs and and teacups
I would turn it into an awesome library with really cool shelves and comfy couches with a ton of pillows. A very cozy room.
I would have lots of books and video games everywhere. So when I’m not reading, I’d be playing lol =P
I would strive to make it look as much like the library in Beauty & The Beast as possible!
I would make it into a movie theater/library
A sewing room with good light, lots of tables, and tons of shelf space for fabric and the like. Oh, someday!
It would be OCD completely plain room no one was allowed in
I’d have my own reading den, of course!
I would love to have my own reading room, bookshelves around the entire room and a big comfy seating area in the middle!
I would do a reading room with large fish tanks for tranquility with the books, and I would require a large bean bag to read on.
Congratulations, Mandy! You were the winner!
I would love my own reading room. Last year we give away 20 boxs of books to a school for a fund raiser. 😉
I would create one of those gigantic libraries with ladders like you see in the movies.
at least two tvs bookcases lining the wall filled with books for myself and my kids and a desktop and a laptop
OMG definitely create my own library, with awesome comfy chairs and a snack bar…and gazillion books of course 😀 Thanks for the amazing giveaway!
